- Five Across, a new entrant player, released InterComm, an instant messaging product for workgroups, featuring a group-based approach to IM, one-click file sharing, and other tools for intra-team communication around projects and documents. - Microsoft released two new toolkits for SharePoint, enabling integration with other portals that comply with the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) standard, and also directly with SAP NetWeaver iViews. Microsoft
- Interwoven released E-mail Management for Notes, an add-on product for Interwoven WorkSite, which exposed the WorkSite document and records repository as a set of engagement-based folders from within the Notes client. "This enables e-mail and documents to be dragged and dropped directly into the repository alongside all other engagement-related content. The result is the elimination of switching between applications or searching multiple repositories to find content. Notes users receive the added WorkSite 8 benefit of rich document management capabilities – by simply dragging an e-mail message into the subject folder it automatically inherits the profile/metadata of the engagement, helping reduce search times and enforce compliance and records retention rules. Documents from the repository can be selected and attached to outgoing e-mail, and inbound e-mail can be detached and placed back in as new or updated versions." Available 3Q2004. Interwoven Comment: Yes, I know the screen shot is of E-mail Management for Outlook, but Interwoven doesn't appear to have a screen shot of the Notes version yet. You get the general idea, at least.
- New customer for Good Technology: law firm Gordon, Feinblatt Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander, LLC. The firm will use GoodLink with Treo 600 smartphones. Concerns with RIM: (1) product strategy diverged from the needs of the firm; (2) the need to purchase a BlackBerry device; and (3) the proprietary nature of the offering. ROI on Good: four hours of time savings per attorney per month. biz.yahoo.com
