I recently spent some time investigating Orative, and its great way of leveraging presence and IM style capabilities in a mobile environment. However, rather than coming at it from the point of merely adding presence and IM to small form-factor mobile devices, Orative set out to resolve two specific problems facing mobile users everywhere:
- ... your mobile phone rings at an inconvenient time, but you think it might be that important call ... you take it, and it's not;
- ... other people keep ringing-and-ringing you, trying to get through, because they absolutely have to talk to you, but you are stuck in a meeting and have no way of communicating with them.
As part of my investigations, I spoke with Paul Fulton, CEO of Orative (who is one of the panelists on my "Extending Collaborative Applications to the Mobile Worker" panel at CTC2005 in June). I left that call very impressed with what Orative have pulled together, and have added it to my "must watch" list. I encourage you to read my analysis of Orative's offerings, just published at CollaborationLoop.
