Interesting conversations going on around the place:
- Could We Have Real Collaboration, Please? Rui laments the lack of real "collaborative" capabilities available in today's product offerings, and asks some questions about computer-supported cooperative work. Key want: a decent way to do asynchronous collaboration in the corporate environment, in a platform-agnostic way. The Tao of Mac
- The Naming of Zimbra. Scott shares some of the thinking behind the name "Zimbra", as well as the challenges inherent in choosing a company name. Zimbra Blog
- Small, Well-Focused Teams. Graham comments on Jeffrey's post about the benefits of small teams for high performance. He argues that it's a dogs vs. sheep equation. Graham Chastney

It's hard for me to understand why Zimbra chose to go with a desktop client- isn't the whole raison d'etre for AJAX to enable desktop levels of functionality in a web based app? I just can't see why a developer community would rally around something tethered to a desktop. Anywhere, anytime, any device access is a major (the major?) selling point we're seeing in messaging collaboration. Once you start using a hosted app it gets very difficult to go back to being desktop client dependent.

Hi Martin, It's actually a 100% browser based app. There is no desktop client in the Zimbra install. We do support standard desktop protocols like IMAP/POP but we do not ship a desktop client.

My misunderstanding- I couldn't figure out why you'd have a desktop client. I guess I mentally registered Downloads without realizing you were offering a server download. (obviously my brain is focused on SaaS!)
